Upon arrival, patrons can expect to be greeted by library staff to answer questions and ensure capacity limits. Patrons and staff members are required to wear face coverings while inside the library and practice safe distancing . The Main Library has allocated hours for vulnerable patrons each Tuesday and Thursday 10-11 a.m. Browsing time is a maximum of one hour and no eating or drinking is allowed ; patrons are encouraged to pick up materials and keep moving so others may enter the library. Public computers are available for one-hour sessions. Patrons are reminded they can place hold s on materials using the MPPL app to pick up in-person or schedule Parking Lot Pickup by selecting either the Main Library or South Branch locations . To pick up kids’ bundles and activities or to receive book recommendations, patrons may email KidsRead@mppl.org (youth) or readers@mppl.org (adults and teens) . For contactless options , patrons are encouraged to use the library’s Parking Lot Pickup , digital services , or sign up for home delivery (limited service) . Virtual programming continues, including author visits, reader recommendations and book talks, personal finance and career guidance, and storytimes . Study rooms, meeting rooms, video games, Teen Space, Discovery Zone, children’s play areas and toys, and in-person programs will not be available . Public seating is also not available except to accommodate patrons with mobility impairments. Updated public Main Library hours are Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 12-5 p.m. South Branch hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; second Saturday of the month 11 am.-3 p.m. For additional details, visit the library’s website ( www.mppl.org ) and social media channels. The library’s services may change at any time. We are actively monitoring conditions for the health and safety of our patrons and staff, and we will adjust accordingly. The library’s actions are guided by available science and information from public health and infectious disease experts, Executive Orders from the Office of Governor Pritzker, and the American Library Association.
